Moon v Earth is an augmented reality artwork, which depicts a future narrative where a moon colony declares its independence from Earth. The virtual objects include a home-built catapult for launching rocks at Earth, military spaceships, lunar architecture and a tattered Lunar independence flag.
The storyline shows two points of view: moon terrorists who use deplorable tactics to inflict civilian deaths vs ingenious lunar revolutionaries that fight for freedom using the scant resources at their disposal.
Viewers pick up the visual fragments through their mobile devices and create their own narrative. They will see only a partial story as all the objects will never be found. This experience of reconstructing reality echoes the subjective “truths” behind nation-building that we experience now, on Earth.
